Abstract

391,935. Step-bystep conveyers. PORTER, W. J. H., 122, Queen Street, Cardiff. Feb. 15, 1932, Nos. 4445 and 18105. [Class 78 (i).] Relates to a reciprocating conveyer with pivoted scrapers for moving furnace ash along a trough into which the ash is delivered through a water-sealed shoot. The construction permits of the conveyer working past the end of the shoot, and the scrapers are pivoted independently so that any scraper which jams may be readily released. The apparatus comprises a reciprocating frame 4 above the trough 2, U-shaped bars 5 connecting the side members of the frame, and scrapers consisting of side members 7 pivoted to the frame 4 at 8 and connected at their lower ends by blades 6, the members 7 resting against the bars 5 and extending upwardly as at 9 for engagement with rollers 19 on actuating bars 17. The bars 17 are carried by parallel links 18 pivoted on the frame 4 and are moved relatively to the frame by the engagement of levers 20 with ramps 24. In operation the frame 4 is moved to and fro by a crosshead 13. In moving to the right, the scrapers are held in the position shown by the bars 5 and push the ash along the trough. On the return stroke the rollers 23 on the levers 20 ride up the ramps 24 so that the bars 17 move further to the left and raise the scrapers. On the next stroke to the right the rollers 23 pass beneath the ramps 24 which are pivoted at 25, and the scrapers are free to take up their original position. The weight of the ramps ensures resetting of the bars 17. The ends 9 of the scraper members may be weighted to facilitate tilting. The bars 5 serve to level the ash in the trough. The frame 4 is supported and guided by wheels 10 running on rails along the trough and by rollers 12 or runners engaging beneath a flange on the trough. The conveyer may follow a broken, curved, or inclined path. The ash shoot may be provided with a crushing roller.
