391,667. Acoustic and sound-magnifying devices. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Bedell, E. H. ; 107, Passaic Avenue, Summit, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Sept. 6, 1932, No. 24862. Convention date, March 11. [Class 13.] Sound - absorbing devices for controlling the acoustics of studios, sound-chambers, directive sound shields or baffles, &c. comprise a number of unequally spaced layers or screens of cloth or other sounddampening material, the minimum air spacing between the layers being one half-inch and the total thickness of the device being equal to one quarter wavelength of the lowest frequency to be absorbed. As shown in Fig. 1, twelve layers 13 of canton flannel unequally spaced are arranged with seven layers 14 of muslin also unequally spaced, the spacing of the layers decreasing and then increasing from the interior of the room &c. A wire fireproof screen 10 is provided and the layers are hung from rods at the ceiling. Fig. 5 shows a baffle or horn for a microphone which is placed at the smaller end 33, the larger end 28 constituting the sound-receiving end. As shown, similar layers of material 39, 40 are arranged with outer padded layers or walls 36. 37.
