Abstract

390,717. Attaching holsters to wearing-apparel. NOEL, P. J., Bowling Green, Kentucky, U.S.A. Sept. 3, 1932, No. 24633. [Classes 43 and 141.] A pistol holster attachment comprises a support 4 adapted to be inserted in a garment pocket 1 and housing one or more retaining elements adapted to be urged outwardly under spring action so as to engage the wall of the pocket and retain the support therein. The holster 3 may be separate from the support and attached thereto as by a loop 6 engaging a hook 7 and secured by a spring keeper 8, Fig. 3, so that the holster may be carried outside the pocket. Alternatively the holster may be riveted to flanges on the support and may then be carried inside the pocket. The retaining elements may consist of wire springs 12 which may be secured between two layers of leather or other stiff material forming the support 4, Fig. 2, or may be inserted in tubular members placed between the layers or forming part of a frame. The wire springs may be in one piece, Fig. 2, comprising a base 13 secured by a clip 14 to the support 4 and terminating in ends 15 with loops 20 between the layers. Bent portions of the wire are adapted to engage the walls of the pocket. Two separate wire springs may be provided, each on one side of the support. They may then be of C-shape or of a shape similar to that shown in Fig. 2. The spring wires may be attached to a frame with the ends 15 sliding in a tubular member. The base 13 may be secured directly to the holster and the ends 15 may slide in a tube riveted to the holster. The resilience may then be increased by loops at each end of the base and by incorporating a supplementary spring crossmember. In further modifications the retaining elements may comprise wire frames, Fig. 6, having legs 21 with abutments 22 sliding in tubes 18<1> and urged outwards by springs 23. Catches 25 limit outward movement of the frames. The tubes 18<1> may be arranged on a frame support 5 or they may be secured within a double layer leather support. In a further form, the retaining elements comprise knobs fitted to spring-actuated plungers sliding within a tube.
