Abstract

390,152. Jointing by stamping. HYDRAULIC BRAKE CO., 2843, East Grand Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Sept. 18, 1931, No. 26185. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1930. [Class 83 (iv).] A coupling member 3 is secured to a flexible tube, wire rope, &c. by a sleeve 7 integral with or connected to the coupling member, the sleeve being preformed with circumferential grooves 6 and compressed axially so as to form circumferential buckles gripping the tube &c. The end of the tube 4 which is held by a clamp 12 is pressed into the sleeve and a nipple 8 is forced by a press head 21 into the coupling member and tube. The sleeve is then compressed until a shoulder 18 on the coupling member contacts with the guide block 16, the metal at the base of the grooves 6 being upset as shown at 62, Fig. 8. The grooves are progressively deeper towards the coupling member. In the form shown in Fig. 8 the nipple 8 is integral with the coupling member and the sleeve is connected during assembly by forcing its end into a groove 59. The sleeve may be internally roughened as by screw-threading.
