Abstract
Dye preparations for use in printing textiles comprise the stable reduction product of a thioindigoid dye containing in its molecule at least once the grouping <FORM:0389915/IV/1> where X represents halogen and Y hydrogen or an alkyl group, and a derivative of benzylsulphanilic acid, dimethylsulphanilic acid or a -naphthalene sulphonic acid which is insoluble or sparingly soluble in water under normal conditions, but is capable of being converted into a water-soluble form under the conditions which obtain during the printing process. Suitable derivatives are sparingly soluble salts, such as the tin or benzidine salts, which may be obtained by boiling the free acid with stannous chloride or benzidine in the presence of water. Other constituents, such as glycerol and starch or other thickening agents may be added to the preparations or printing pastes. The stable reduction products of the dyes are made by the processes described in Specifications 334,878, 334,919, and 338,104, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. In examples (1) the stable reduction product of 4 : 4<1>-dimethyl-6 : 6<1>-dichlorthioindigo is ground with glycerol, the benzidine salt of benzylsulphanilic acid, ferrous sulphate and water, (2) the same stable reduction product is ground with glycerol, tin benzylsulphanilate and water, and a small quantity of one of the condensation products described in Specification 8511/12, [Class 76, Leather], is added to the paste, and (3) material is printed with the paste obtained in either of the preceding examples mixed with glycerol, wheat starch-tragacanth thickening, potassium carbonate, and formaldehydesulphoxylate, dried, steamed, oxidized and soaped while boiling. The stable reduction products of 4 : 4<1>-dimethyl-6 : 6<1> - dibromthioindigo and 4 : 4<1>-dimethyl-6 : 5<1> : 7<1>-trichlorthioindigo are also specified as parent materials.ALSO:Tin salts of benzylsulphanilic acid, dimethylsulphanilic acid, and a -naphthalene-sulphonic acid are made by boiling the free acid with stannous hydroxide in the presence of water.
