Abstract

389,829. Pattern-grading machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., KESTELL, T. A., and BURTON, S., Union Works, Belgrave Road, Leicester. Sept. 17, 1931, No. 26007. [Class 97 (iii).] A pattern-grading machine for tracing patterns in relatively stiff material is provided with a supporting bed for relatively flimsy material and means for tracing a pattern therein. In the form shown, the machine is of the type described in Specifications 335,200, [Class 97 (iii), Thermometers &c.], and 364,550, and comprises a fixed vertically reciprocating punch 1 and a movable model guide 3 connected by two pantograph mechanisms to a combined model and pattern board carrier 7 which is adapted to be moved along two pairs of guideways 9, 11 at right-angles to each other. The jaws 15, which clamp the pattern board when cutting from relatively stiff material, are adapted when cutting flimsy material to hold a bracket 13, 17 in which is rotatably mounted a knife 25 caused by a spring to press upon the material, but capable of being withdrawn by a hand-operated lever. The material is clamped on a horizontal table 43 by two flat steel strips 51 having a number of small leaf springs secured to their undersides and slidable laterally on transverse bars 53 which may be moved in to the clamping position by spring-urged bell-crank levers 59 controlled by a handle 65.
