Abstract
389,253. Insulator pins. ROST, H.,- 170, Calle Patzcuara, Mexico City. Feb. 11, 1932, No. 4114. [Class 36.] A resilient pin for attaching an insulator to a cross arm &c. is made from a steel strip which is bent to form two upright shanks connected together at their ends by horizontal members, the shanks being screw threaded near their upper ends for engagement with a screw-threaded cavity of the insulator and being of such width that their edges do not touch when the pin is inserted within the insulator. The thread on the pin is preferably of slightly greater diameter than that of the insulator cavity so that the pin engages the insulator under pressure. To increase the resiliency of the pin the shanks may taper in width or thickness away from the base of the pin. Fig. 1 shows a pin formed from a steel strip 1, bent to.provide a base 9 having upwardly extending shanks 3 which are provided near their upper ends with screw threads 4. The extremities 5 of the shanks are of reduced width and are bent inwardly and soldered together to form the top 7 of the pin. An aperture 10, through which a fixing bolt may be passed, is formed in the base 9. In a modified construction, the top of the pin is formed by a washer which is soldered across upright extremities of the shanks 3. In another construction, Figs. 3 and 4, the strip 1 is bent to form a top 3 having depending shanks 4, the lower extremities of which are bent inwardly, twisted sidewise and soldered together with their edges abutting to form a base 8 for the pin. Fig. 8 shows a pin modified for use with an insulator having a cavity of narrow bore, in which the upper extremities of the shanks are laid side by side and soldered or spot welded together. Such a pin may be used for supporting insulators of larger bore by interposing between the pin and the insulator cavity a longitudinally split tubular adaptor, preferably of annealed aluminium, which is threaded internally to receive the pin and externally to fit the bore of the insulator.
