Abstract
<PICT:0389138/IV/1> Materials or fibres of animal or vegetable origin, finished or unfinished, are treated in kiers &c. by circulating treating liquors containing reagents such as hydrogen peroxide or sodium peroxide which evolve ineffective gaseous oxygen during the treatment. This ineffective oxygen is removed by passing the liquor from the kier 1 by a pump 6 through a heater 8, the liquor returning to the kier through the perforated pipes 17, 20 and the gas collecting in a container 23 from which it is allowed to escape by a valve 24. Instead of a container 23 an automatic gas and liquid separating valve may be placed at the top of the heater 8. The heater is preferably inclined.
