Abstract

388,899. Dish-washing apparatus. EASDOWN, R. H., 369, Post Office Place, Melbourne, Australia. Jan. 11, 1932, No. 816. [Class 138 (i).] A casing 2 is divided into two compartments, one provided with supports for dishes, cutlery, cooking-utensils, and similar articles, the other provided with a pump 43 and tanks containing cleansing liquid adapted to be delivered by the pump to a hose 44 fitted with a spraying nozzle 46, the hose being manipulated from the exterior of the casing to direct the liquid on to the articles through an opening in the casing. The opening is normally closed by a door in folding sections 3a, 3b hinged together at 3c and adapted to be held in the closed position by means of the slidable bolts 6. A catch 7 is provided for supporting the door in the open position. Plates and like articles are supported in V-shaped troughs 21 which are slotted to retain the plates in upright position. The troughs are provided with lips 22 to rest on horizontal rods 23. In a modification, the troughs rest in boxes supported by the rods. Cups are supported on three rods 29. Cutlery is carried in elongated receptacles 32, each of which is provided with cross bars at the top and stops at the bottom formed from a length of wire, so that the knives &c. are supported substantially vertically. A sump 41 located below the racks is provided with a drain plug 42 and a pipe 63 leading to the pump in the compartment 18. This compartment contains tanks 50, 51 adapted to hold respectively hot soapy water and hot running water, the tanks being filled from wells 52, 52a provided with depending pipes 53, 53a. Pipes 50a, 51a are connected to the intake side of the pump, and are fitted with hand-controlled valves so that liquid may be drawn from either tank as desired and delivered through the hose 44. An electric heating element 71 may be mounted beneath the sump 41 as shown, or beneath the tanks. The pump 43 is preferably handoperated and provided with a compressed-air chamber 48.
