[Class 40 (iv).] In a system for distributing music &c. over phantom as well as over side circuits, the phantom circuit is connected at the receiving points over centre-tapped resistances shunting the side circuits, the centre tap being locally adjusted to the electrical centre of the side circuits. To reduce energy losses the resistances may be cut out when the phantom is not in use and/or the impedance of the receiving apparatus can be made higher for the phantom than for the side circuits either by arranging receiver coils to be in series for the phantom and in parallel for the side transmissions or by providing a tapped input transformer with a larger portion of the winding in use for the phantom than for the side circuits. The system may be made foolproof by the use of non- symmetrical connecting plugs. The input to the system is transformer-coupled to the distribution wires, adjustable resistances being provided if necessary to enable the correct electrical centre of the system to be found so that the phantom current strength in the two side circuits is equal.
