Abstract
A non-coagulable emulsion or suspension of calcined gypsum and latex, containing more water than is necessary to hydrate the gypsum, is cast and allowed to dry to produce a porous material. In an example the mixture consists of 1000 gms. calcined gypsum; 660 gms. of the substance known under the registered Trade Mark "Revertex"; 17,5 gms. sulphur; 3 gms. accelerator; 10,03 gms. zinc oxide; and 400 ccs. water, containing 20 gms. alkali soluble casein; 1 gm. Nekal; 10 drops 4 per cent thymol solution and 20 ccs. 15 per cent ammonia. Mats may be made by casting the mixture on to a glass plate lying on a carriage frame which fits exactly in the vulcanizing vessel in which the mixture is dried in a vacuum at 40 DEG C and then vulcanized. The glass plate may bear an inscription or design. Floors may also be covered with the mixture.
