Abstract
386,860. Moulds. FORNANDER, S. G. E., Hagfors. Jernverk, Hagfors, Vermland, Sweden. June 2, 1932, No. 15689. [Class 83 (i).] Sink heads for chill moulds used in casting steel or other metal have an outer wall 3 integral with the chill 1, a detachable liner 7 of sheet metal, preferably less than 5 mm. thick, and loose heat-insulating material 4. The liner may rest on a ledge 10 or extend flush with tapering wall 1, Fig. 4, packing 8 being provided to prevent the material 4 from falling into the mould. The liner may taper inwardly towards. the top and the mould may have a bottom inlet. The material 4 may consist of brick- or sandstone-dust, porous sand, or kieselguhr to which charcoal-breeze or coke-dust may be added. Similar material 6 may be heaped on the cast metal.
