Abstract

<PICT:0386767/III/1> Apparatus for determining the moisture content of materials consists of a vessel A, in which the material is placed, fitted with a detachable cap B into which is placed a suitable quantity of a substance such as calcium carbide which will generate a gas in the presence of moisture. This cap is held firmly against the opening in the vessel A by the screw D, a gastight joint being ensured by a packing ring C. The pressure of the gas generated is shown by a gauge G connected to the vessel A through a filtering medium K. The pressure gauge is graduated to show the percentage of moisture by weight or volume in the material to be tested. A safety valve M is also fitted.
