386,163. Magnifying-appliances ; spectacle lenses. BAKER, W. E., 313, High Holborn, and HALL, S. J., 48, Tybenham Road, Merton Park, both in London. March 15, 1932, No. 7652. [Class 97 (i).] A lens unit for spectacles enabling magnification to be obtained in excess of that required for correct. ing visual defects, e.g. for inspecting gems &c., comprises a transparent support a for mounting in or on a spectacle frame, and a small magnifying lens b mounted on the support so that it will not interfere materially with freedom of vision and can be used as a magnifier when the eye is deflected to a specified position. The support a may be a spectacle lens for correcting visual defects, or, if there are no such defects, it may be a piece of plain glass. One surface b<1> of the lens b may have the same curvature as the surface a<1> of the lens a, Fig. 3, or these curvatures may be different, Fig. 4, the lens a then having a recess a<2> to accommodate the lens b. In a specific example described the lens b is about 6 mm. in diameter and is about 9 mm. above the horizontal axis of the support and about 3 mm. to one side of the vertical axis.
