Abstract

385,552. Turning. HERBERT, SIR A., LLOYD, A. H. and TIPPLE, E. W., Canal Road, Edgwick, Coventry. July 16, 1932, No. 20182. [Class 83 (iii).] A pusher device for feeding bar stock in lathes and like machines which is operated by a weight and flexible connection, has means for clamping the latter between jaws by a quickacting manual control. The pusher device Fig. 8, housed in a slotted stock tube 4, has at one end a rotatable conical seating for engaging the stock and at its other end a tongue which projects through the slot in the housing tube and is connected by a wire 16 or other flexible means, passing over a pulley system 19, 21 to weights 24. The tube 4 is clamped at one end in a swivel bracket 5 and is spigoted at its other end in a block 6 which can be slid along the guide 10 to facilitate reloading from the machine end ; the block 6 is clamped in working position by a handle 12 which by means of a left-hand thread draws up a clamp bolt fitting a T-slot in the guide 10, Fig. 9. A manually controlled cam-operated jaw 28, normally retained in its uppermost position by a spring 31, Fig. 5, in conjunction with the ledge 27 effects the clamping of the flexible connection 16 when the weights 24 have been drawn up ready for a fresh feeding operation, thus enabling the stock tube to be pivoted about the vertical axis of the tube 8 and stock pushed in from the machine end. A bush 33 in the block 6, Fig. 9, helps to support long lengths of bar but may be easily forced out to allow the pusher its full movement towards the headstock, by release of a screw clamp 34. The vertical standards for supporting the feeding device may have ledges 32, Fig. 1, for storing bar stock.
