Abstract

385,399. Hand-irons. SCHMIDT, A., 41, Schwedter Strasse, Berlin. Nov. 11, 1931, No. 31261. [Class 138 (ii).] In a tailor's-iron, a steam-generating apparatus comprises water and steam conduits 8, 14, 18, 19 which are connected to headers 10, 15, the former being connected to a slidable plate 9 and the latter to the heel 5 of the iron. The conduits 8 .. 19 are arranged round a burner 30 in the space 7 in the iron and the header 10 is provided with slots 11, 12, Fig. 5, the former connecting the conduits 8, 14 and the latter the conduits 18, 19. The header 15 is provided with a slot 16, Fig. 6, connecting the conduits 14, 19 and a slot 17 connecting the conduits by a passage 20 with a superheating space 21. The superheated steam then passes through the space 23 in the toe piece 4 of the iron and thence into the space 24 formed between the lugs 25 on the body of the iron and a dished plate 26 having perforations 27 through which the steam passes on to the article being ironed. In a modification, the burner 30 is replaced by an electric heating element and the perforations in the plate 26 are in the form of staggered slits.
