Abstract

385,190. Fountain pens. KOVACS, T., 55, Kufsteinerstrasse, Schoneberg, Berlin. May 9, 1932, No. 13345. [Class 146 (iii).] In a self-filling fountain pen having a plunger reciprocated by a screw drive, a vent is provided for the air contained in the space above the plunger, together with closure means for the vent. The plunger 5 is reciprocated by rotating a knob 3 which is rigidly connected to a spindle 2 having a male thread which engages a corresponding female thread on a hollow rod 4 carried by the plunger 5. The space enclosed behind the plunger communicates by a hole 11 with a central aperture 12 in the screw spindle 2, which is closed at the bottom end when the plunger is completely retracted by a plug 13 and at the top end by a plug 14 carried by the screw-cap 9. A fluidtight packing 6 may be provided. In a modification, the central aperture 12 is dispensed with, a vent being provided at the end of the barrel, one end of which is closed by the upper end of the hollow rod 4, when the plunger is fully retracted, while the other end is closed by the screw-on cap 9.
