[Class 18.] The lid 13 of a packing case is secured on the body 11 by one or more nuts engaging upstanding studs or pins. 10 secured to the inside of the walls of the body and projecting through holes in the depressed portions 16 of one or more elongated metal cleats 14 secured to the upper face of the lid parallel to the edge or edges thereof, the nuts being accommodated in the depressions in the cleats 1. The cleats reinforce the lid and when the latter is formed of a number of boards the cleats extend over adjacent boards and prevent them from being prised up. The nuts are sealed by filling the depressions 16 with plaster of Paris &c. and a paper or metal seal may be secured thereover. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a case having members 20, 21 Fig . 5 (Cancelled), secured across the top and the lid has a pair of longitudinal cleats 23 secured to its under surface and projecting beyond one end to engage under the member 21, the other end of the lid and cleats being accommodated on a recessed ledge 22 secured to the underface of the member 20. The nuts 18, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), may be sealed with a thin metal plate 26 having lugs 27 which are clamped between the lid and the top of the case ; the plate is bent upwards to form an outside wall to the depression 16 and, after the depression is filled with plaster of Paris &c., the perforated end 28 of the plate is turned over and embedded therein. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
