Abstract

Blends of alkyd resins and fatty oils produced by autoclaving are treated with polyhydric alcohols containing more than two hydroxyl groups in the molecule. In examples (1) to (4) a blend produced by autoclaving linseed oil with an unmodified glycerol-phthalate resin, a resin prepared from glycerine, phthalic anhydride and rosin, or linseed oil fatty acids or a resin prepared from glycerine, glycol and phthalic anhydride, is treated with glycerine; a solution of the product in a mixture of toluol and naphtha gives a varnish. (5) A blend of a resin derived from glycerine, phthalic anhydride and linseed oil fatty acids and soya bean oil is treated with glycerine or pentaerythritol; the resulting varnish films are air-drying.
