Abstract

384,126. Hydraulic turbines. HUGUENIN, A. and SOC. D'EQUIPMENT DES VOIES FERR•ES ET DES GRANDS R•SEAUX ELECTRIQUES, 23, Rue Ballu, Paris. Feb. 4, 1932, No. 3371. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1931. [Class 110 (iii).] A distributer for hydraulic reversing turbines comprises a series of guide vanes 1 each pair held axially by a flange 3 on which is cut a toothed wheel 4, each wheel 4 being connected to other guide vanes by gears so that the whole system of blades is rotated simultaneously. Means comprising two screw systems working on different pitches cause either a rotation of the blades or a translational movement of the system. Each pair of guide blades 1 has a screw thread 8 meshing with a thread of a hollow shaft 9. A screwed rod 10, secured to the vanes by a square end 10a and a flange 10c, meshes with threads on a hollow shaft 11. The screw systems 8-9 and 10-11 have different pitches. Fig. 2 illustrates the movements of translation or rotation. If relative movement of threads 8-9 is a and that of threads 10-11 is b, the resultant is c, a movement of translation without rotation of the vanes. If 8-9 moves through a and 10-11 through d, the resultant motion is e, a rotational one of the vanes, without axial movement. A servomotor has gearwheels 13, 14 on shafts 15, 9 so that the latter is driven at a uniform speed. Gears 16, 18 of different size are loosely mounted on the shaft 15 and driven thereby when clutched by claw teeth 23, 24 on a sliding clutch 22 which is keyed to the shaft 15. Gears 17, 19 are keyed to shaft 20, which is an extension of the hollow shaft 11. A servomotor has ports 25 of its cylinder connected to a suitable valve which controls the admission of pressure fluid from any convenient source to one or other of the ports 25. The fluid acts on a piston 27, which is coupled to the clutch 22. Working fluid is supplied to the gear-wheel motor 13 through one of two ports for driving in one direction and exhausted through a similar port. Ball thrust bearings are fitted to each shaft. Specifications 267,945, [Class 69 (i), Hydraulic apparatus &c.], is referred to.
