Abstract

383,854. Liquid-fuel burners. BEHRSIN, A., 3323, Olive Street, Hunting- ton Park, California, U.S.A. March 24, 1932, No. 8793. [Class 75 (i).] An oil burner of the flat flame steam atomizing type comprises an oil chamber 12 and a steam chamber 18 respectively formed with an oil-discharge orifice 25 and a steam discharge orifice 26 and a communication from the steam chamber to the oil chamber opening into the latter towards the oil discharge orifice so that jets of steam are ejected with the oil through the oil discharge orifice. The burner is formed by three members ; a member B, Fig. 2, having an oil supply pipe connection 14 and a central boss 13 around which is an oil chamber 12 with an inclined upper wall 17, a member C having a steam supply pipe connection 19 and a central boss 24 around which is the steam chamber 18, and a septum D interposed between the members B-C, the whole being clamped together by a bolt E the lower end of which screws into the boss 24 of the member C. The chamber 18 communicates through a series of openings with an annular channel 23 formed in the upper face of the member C. The septum may be formed in one piece, or as shown in Fig. 5 may be built up of three pieces a, b, c. The member a is cut away to form a sector-shaped recess f and the member c is cut away to form a similar recess of greater angle. These recesses, which are in direct communication with the oil chamber 12 and the annular steam channel 23 form the oil and steam outlets 25, 26. In order that steam may have access to the oil chamber, the end of the bolt E is formed with a longitudinal passage 32 communicating with the steam chamber by a passage 36 and with the oil chamber near the outlet thereof by way of radial passages 33, 35, the latter being formed in the member a of the septum between a central aperture 30 and the recess f.
