[Class 87 (ii).] In mechanism for the removal of slabs of edible fat from moulds, baseplates 3 are adapted to receive filled moulds 1 from a cooling chamber and the bottom of the mould is adapted to be bent and its sides pressed apart by an elevated portion 4 of the baseplate co-operating with a plunger 11 having a spring-operated cross-piece 13 on its underside. The elevated portion 4 extends obliquely across the plate 3. The cross-piece 13 comprises hooked and bevelled bolts slidable in tubes against springs 14, Fig. 2. The plunger is also provided with diagonally opposed buffers 31 which co-operate with the cross-piece and baseplate. The plunger is guided on columns 24 and is moved down by a lever 7. The baseplate is fixed to a lever 5 pivoted on a shaft 6 and is adapted to be swung over by levers 8, 9. The lever 7 is connected to the lever 9 by a bolt 16 sliding in a slot 15. In operation the mould 1 moves from the cooling chamber on a conveyer 2 and down an incline 28 to the baseplate. The lever 7 is then moved from position I to II to depress the plunger and back to position I to raise it, the bolt sliding so that no motion is communicated to the lever 9. The lever 7 is then moved to position III, thus swinging the plate 3 and mould 1 over and depositing the slab of fat through an open frame 17 on to a conveyer. The lever 7 is then moved to position I, a spring retaining the bolt at the head of the slot so that the plate 3 is swung back. At the same time the frame 17 is swung up by levers 20, 21 so as to tip the empty mould on to a conveyer 22. The baseplate may be provided with a headed pin 25 with its shank protruding through a hole in the plate and adapted to be knocked by a hammer 26 so as to jar the mould. The hammer is pivoted as by a flat spring in a bearing 27 such that it cannot drop down when underneath the plate 3. When the latter is swung over, the resilience of the spring keeps the hammer knocking. The mould may be provided with a protective layer 30 of rubber. One or more such knocking devices may be provided and the machine may be adapted to operate simultaneously on a series of adjacent moulds. The lever 7 may be operated mechanically or by hand, and may have a counterweight 23.
