Abstract

392,357. Moulding plastic substances by tamping-machines. CUVELIER, P. A. I., Rue de la Gare, Marly, Nord, France. May 10, 1932, No. 13494. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1931. [Class 87 (ii).] In a moulding-machine in which the material is compressed by a rammer in a mould which is shaken, and in which the rammer bears on the surface of the moulded material while the mould is raised from its base to expel the moulded article, the rammer 1 has a vertical extension 6 on which are keyed two spaced collars 22, 23 between which two plates 19, 20 separated by a spring 21 are adapted to slide, the plates co-operating with fixed abutments 25, 26 so that on upward movement of the rammer 1 the plate 20 engages the abutment 26 to compress the spring 21 and thus accelerate the fall of the rammer whereupon the plate 19 engages the abutment 25 and supports the rammer at the level of the compressed material through the spring 21. The rammer 1 is raised by a lever 10 pivoted at 11, which lever is oscillated by a roller 15 which engages a spiral cam track 16 rotating on the shaft 18. The roller 15 slides laterally in the lever 10 and is brought into engagement with the centre of the cam track 16 by a lever (not shown) and disengaged at the top by a wedge-shaped projection on the cam surface. The rammer is retained in its raised position by a lever 30. A hopper 31 with a door 32 is used for filling the mould. In a modification the rammer is raised by a pawl or an eccentric which engages a pivoted toothed sector 45 connected to the rod 6, or the pawl 44, Fig. 5, may be carried by a pivoted rod 42 and operated by a cam 40. The lever 10 may also be raised by a hook 82, Fig. 6, carried by a lever 80 oscillated by the cam 78. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the rammer is raised step by step by hooks 71, 76 carried on levers 70, 75 operated by a double cam 73, which hooks engage projections 72 alternatively. The mould 2 is shaken by hooks 56, 57 carried on connected levers 48, 52 which are oscillated by a cam 46, Fig. 2. The hooks 56, 57 engage projections 60, 61 on the rods 63, 64 and thus raise the mould and then allow it to drop on to the abutments 4. The formed article is ejected from the mould by allowing the rammer to rest on the moulded surface and detaching the base 3 of the mould. Teeth 65 are allowed to engage under the projections 61 and the mould is raised step by step by the hooks 56, 57 leaving the article on the base 3. In a modification, Fig. 7; the base 3 may be carried by springs 83 and, when the supports 4 are removed, the rammer 1 which carries rods 88 forces the base 3 away from the mould with the moulded article on it. The various devices described for raising the rammer may also be used for raising or shaking the mould.
