383,167. Vehicle brake-operating mechanism. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., 88, Regent Street, London.-(Assignees of Ford, H. ; Dearborn, Michigan, U.S.A.) April 8, 1932, No. 10096. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1931. [Class 103 (i).] Relates to a vehicle braking system including a brake for each wheel and diagonally-extending operating-rods 48, 49, Fig. 3, connecting the brakes with arms 41 on a cross-shaft 39 adapted to be rotated by two independent members, e.g. a pedal 35 and lever 47. The shaft 39 is supported between the arms 41 in bearings 40, Fig. 5, in a bracket 38 fixed to a transverse frame member, the diameter of the shaft between the bearings being enlarged so that failure of any one part of the system leaves at least two brakes available for operation. Arms 42, 44 also fixed on the shaft 39 are connected respectively by pin-and-slot connections to levers 37, 46 connected respectively to the pedal 35 and lever 47. Spring perches 15, Fig. 6, on the front axle 14 each support a housing 26 for a cam-rod 27 which when rotated by a rod 48 operates the wedge 23 of an internal-expanding shoe brake by means of a push-rod 24 extending through a hollow king-pin 16.
