Abstract
383,008. Bottle-washing machines. POWLEY & SONS, Ltd., R. and POWLEY, W., St. Marks Road, Sunderland. Oct. 6, 1931, No. 27767. [Class 138 (i).] An intermittently-moving conveyer is provided with a number of horizontal tubes c, Fig. 1, fitted with nozzles c<1> projecting into the interior of inverted bottles, and each tube is provided with an inlet port d adapted to make joint with a corresponding discharge port g on a reciprocating header f, which supplies liquid to the tubes when the conveyer is stationary and while the ports d, g are connected. The header f is carried by a frame e which is reciprocated by rods actuated by overhead cam gear (not shown). The supply of liquid to the header is controlled by an automatically-acting valve. The tubes c are also provided each with a discharge port i co-operating with a plug j carried by the frame e, so that the port i is closed when the bottles are being jetted and is afterwards opened to allow the liquid to drain away. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the inlet and discharge ports are formed at the ends of the tubes c. The inlet port n<1> is adapted to be connected to the header f<1> through a slidable discharge tube n which is pressed towards the tube c by a spring t and is periodically withdrawn from the tube c by means of a bell crank lever p operated by a rotating cam s. A valve opens to allow liquid to enter the pipe m when the tubes c, n are connected. A plug jl operates in synchronism with the movement of the tube n, to open and close the discharge ports of the tube c.
