382,920. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) June 16, 1932, No. 17029. [Class 112.] The electric driving motor 11 of a sewing- machine is mounted on an arm 8 pivoted to the machine frame at 7 and pressed in one direction by a spring plunger 22 to take up belt wear. The motor can be moved against the spring plunger to release the belt 16 from its frictional driving engagement between the pulleys of the motor and the machine shaft 6 by a catch 24, which retains it in this position. A projection 27 on the tail of the catch holds the slack belt up to prevent accidental driving of the machine shaft due to the weight of the slack belt on the motor pulley. In this position a spool may be placed on the end 15 of the motor shaft for winding, without actuating the machine shaft 6.
