Abstract

382,789. Salting fish. SUTTON, H., 17, Charles Street, Great Yarmouth. Dec. 3, 1931, No. 33524. [Class 49.] In curing fish, the fish are salted on one side whilst on a portion y of a conveyer 20, then turned over and deposited on a portion z of the conveyer at a lower level and salted on the other side, and are finally deposited in a curing vat 58. In the construction described, the apparatus comprises a frame 1 mounted on wheels or castors 7 so as to be transportable. A travelling belt conveyer 20 passes over rollers 13, 14, 15 which are in fixed positions, and over rollers 17, 18 carried by a boom 8, 9 which is supported on rollers 12 running on the frame 1 so that it can be moved to and fro to distribute the salted fish at a uniform level in the vat 58. The belt 20 is actuated by roller 14 which is driven from an electric motor 39. The roller 13 is mounted on self-adjusting bearings 19 to take up slackness in the belt 20. The belt is supported between rollers 13, 14 on slats 21, between rollers 17, 18 on slats 11, and between rollers 18, 13 by a roller 16. The fish are turned by a roller 53 having radial extensions and driven from the shaft of roller 14. The salt is supplied from boxes 23, 24 having grid or like bottoms. To provide for agitation and distribution of the salt, the boxes 23, 24 are mounted on rollers 28, Fig. 10, on channelshaped members 3, 4 attached to the frame 1 so that they can be reciprocated by means of a wheel 46, driven from the motor 39, which actuates the box 23 through a crank 33, links 32, 31, 30 and a bar 25 attached to the box 23. The box 24 is actuated through a link 34 attached to bar 25, a link 35 pivoted to a main frame member 38 and a link 36 secured to a bar 26 attached to the box 24.
