Abstract

Liquid fatty acids obtained by cooling to about 4-5 DEG C. fatty acid mixtures of animal origin such as sperm oil or of vegetable origin such as non-drying oils and then removing the solid constituents are esterified with glycerine to give a substitute for neatsfoot oil. In examples liquid fatty acids derived from lard (hog fat), olive oil, sperm oil, and palm oil are cooled to about 4 DEG C., the solid constituents removed therefrom and the liquid constituents esterified with glycerin.
