Abstract
380,354. Gauging- apparatus. AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE MACHINERY CO., 816, West Washington Street, Chicago, U.S.A. Feb. 18, 1932, No. 4880. Convention date, April 30, 1931. [Class 106 (ii).] A device for gauging the alignment of connecting-rods of various sizes, comprises a support 16 secured to a plate 14 and readily adjustable to a large range of connecting-rod bearings sizes, and on this support the connecting-rod 15 is pivoted so that its other end can be brought against sets of gauging surfaces 42, 43 arranged at right-angles to one another on a slide 34 clamped at the desired distance on the plate 14. The adjustment on the support 16 comprises slides 20 which are adjustable radially by the spreading action of cones 23 and the contracting action of a spring 27, the cones being secured to a rod 22 which is moved axially by turning a screw cap 30. The gauge slide 34 has a U-shaped clamp base portion 35, and its surfaces 35a, 35b are clamped firmly against the adjacent faces of the plate 14 by turning an adjusting screw 37 and forcing a pin 39 into a V-groove 40 arranged as shown on the back of the plate 14. A spring 41 holds the pin yieldably seated in the plate groove. By sliding the member 34 off the end of the plate 14 and replacing it with the surfaces 42, 43 facing away from the support 16, the length range of the device is increased. Figs. 7, 8 and 9 show modified arrangements of the adjustment screws 53, 57, 64 and coacting surfaces 51, 60, 63c on the plate 14 for clamping the gauge member 34 in position. To gauge a piston and connecting-rod assembly, the member 34 is removed and the face of the plate 14 serves as a gauging surface for the piston.
