[Class 18.] A case for sticks of cosmetic material, e.g. lipstick, comprises a casing 1, an intermediate revoluble tube 13 formed with a head 2 which has an opening 3 in its upper part, an inner tube 9 secured to the casing 1 and formed with a head 8 which is provided with an opening co-axial with the opening 3, a closure 5 for the two openings which swivels between the members 2, 8 when the head 2 is rotated, a cup, &c. 11 which holds the stick and slides in the tube 9, and a gear whereby, when the head 2 is rotated, it not only moves the closure 5 but also shifts the stick up or down. As shown, the gear comprises a helical slot in the tube 13 and a longitudinal slot in the tube 9, a pin on the cup 11 engaging both slots. The lower end of the helical slot is horizontal so that the stick does not move upwards during the initial movement of the head 2. The closure 5 is constituted by two arcuate-shaped plates fulcrummed on bosses 4 on the inner surface of the head 2, and each plate has an inwardly projecting pin 6 which engages a cam groove 7 on the head 8, the grooves being so shaped that the first part of the opening movement is made rapidly and the second part, slowly. The tube 9 is secured, e.g. soldered, to a transverse partition in the casing 1, and the compartment formed in the casing below the partition may accommodate a powder puff or a compact powder pad fitted in a removable base 19, &c. A mirror may be provided on the outer face of the base 19. The number of plates constituting the closure member and the number of grooves 7 may be varied.
