Abstract
<PICT:0379789/IV/1> <PICT:0379789/IV/2> <PICT:0379789/IV/3> <PICT:0379789/IV/4> An extrusion device for making films, bands, or foils from viscose, cupraammonium and other cellulose solutions comprises a rigid structure constituting the pourer body, a movable lip or lips of noncorrosive material fitted to the bottom of the rigid structure with micrometric horizontal adjustment, and a seal of resilient material such as rubber inserted between the lips and the rigid structure to prevent leakage. Adjustable end plates may be provided for preventing leakage while allowing for differences in thermal expansion between the lips and the rigid structure, and for adjustment of the lips. A filter may be inserted between the pourer body and its lid. The pourer body may be of iron and the lips of nickel. As shown in the drawings, the width of the extrusion slit between the lips A, B is adjusted by the micrometer D operating on the movable lip A. A rubber joint E is inserted between the lip A and the wall F of the pourer body in order to prevent leakage. End plates H are provided with holes L into which fit dowel-pins J attached to the walls F, G of the hopper. Steady pins K are provided on the plates H which are bolted to the lips A, B by studs passing through the holes M. A rubber joint I is fitted into a recess between the end plate H and the end wall of the hopper in order to assist in reliably sealing the hopper. As shown in Fig. 4 the filter, which forms an integral part of the lid of the hopper, consists of a framework of iron or steel N recessed to support a mesh of steel wire which carries the filtering medium R such as cotton cloth, cambric, calico, swansdown, or raised twill. The filtering medium is stretched over the wire mesh and the framework N by rubber jointing. Viscose is fed into the hopper through inlets O provided with baffles to ensure even distribution. Air releases are provided by the holes P.
