Abstract

<PICT:0645357/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0645357/IV (a)/2> The spreader box 28, that delivers liquid plastic material to rotating drums 12 from which the material is stripped in solid sheet form and then moulded into capsules by die rolls, is provided with vertically adjustable gates 68 under which the material flows on to the drums. Each gate has threaded ears 84 in which are screwed rods 76 which bear on the edges of the drums as shown in Fig. 5. Springs 88 yieldingly hold the gates down. The construction is such that even if there are irregularities in the surfaces on which the rods bear, the distance between the said surfaces and the bottom of the gates is maintained constant. The height of each gate may be adjusted by turning the rods 76 by means of knurled heads 78. Leaf springs 89 press the gates into sealing engagement with the end walls 62 of the spreader box. The box is supported by the drums, and is resiliently and adjustably pressed on to the latter by means of springs 108 and screwed rods 102. The walls of the box are heated by electrical resistances 72 housed therein. A flexible metal band 70 attached to a wall 64 of the box bears on each drum and prevents leakage of plastic material. Cool dry air is blown on the plastic material on the drums, to accelerate setting thereof, through a duct 96 and cowlings 90.
