[Class 40 (v).] In a signalling system in which secrecy is obtained by scrambling or inverting the lowfrequency signal currents and by varying the carrier frequency, the rate of variation of the carrier frequency is low, being of the order of one oscillation per second, so that speech distortion is avoided. The range of variation to be effective is equal to the band width of the signal, or if the signal is subdivided into bands, to the width of one of these bands. The receiver is arranged to be sufficiently broadly tuned to accept the carrier and sidebands at all frequencies transmitted.
