Abstract

377,439. Couplings. GRESTY, H., 243, Chapel Street, Salford, Manchester. July 30, 1931, No. 21728. [Class 38 (i).] An earthing clip comprises a flexible band 8 attached at one end to a plate 1 to which a lever 11 is connected, the end 14 of the lever 11 engaging holes or notches in the band 8, and the construction being such that the lever can be operated to tighten the band around the earth connection, shown as a pipe 15. The attachment of the band 8 to the plate 1 is effected by means of a slot 2 in the plate and an enlargement at the end of the band. The lever 11 is carried under a bridge-piece 4 on the plate 1 and has a forked end 12 which engages a screw 5 passed through a hole 17 in the plate. When the lower nut 6 is screwed downwardly, the end 14 of the lever is raised and the band 8 is tightened. The conductor 16 is clamped between the washers 7 by the upper nut 6. The band 8 may have a number of staggered rows of holes or notches, and an alternative slot of different width from the slot 2 may be provided in the plate 1, for attaching the band to the plate. The hole 17 may be square, to prevent rotation of the screw. The construction shown may be modified by extending the end 12 of the lever 11 to bend beneath the plate 1, and passing through the extension of the lever a screw bearing on the underside of the plate 1 ; a terminal stud with nuts may then be provided on the upper side of the plate.
