Abstract
<PICT:0377245/III/1> <PICT:0377245/III/2> A reflecting coating for kinematograph projection screens comprises a white or light-coloured metallic oxide and a binding agent, together with a variable amount of hygroscopic material such that the time required for drying is independent of atmospheric conditions. The metallic oxide preferably is titanium oxide which may be mixed with zinc oxide to reduce any tendency to chalkiness. Suitable binding agents are gelatine, glue or casein. The hygroscopic material may consist of glycerine, acetic acid or magnesium chloride; or mixtures thereof. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a screen comprising a fabric, e.g. paper, layer coated with an irregular surface layer over which is applied a colour filter layer to reduce glare. The surface coating composition, consisting of titanium oxide, boiled linseed oil, raw linseed oil, kerosene, and/or turpentine is applied to the paper 6, Fig. 1 (Cancelled) by a rubber or gelatine roller 5 co-operating with a pressure roll 7, the composition being supplied to the roller 5 from a vessel 1 through metal rollers 2, 4 and an intermediate rubber roller 3. A similar coating machine is employed for the filter layer, the intermediate metal roller 4 being engraved with a small, diamond-shaped pattern. Fig. 3 (Cancelled) shows such a screen having a paper base in the form of a roll 21 held by a weighted detent 22, 25 from which a section is drawn down and passed through a clamp 23. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
