Abstract

375,816. Electric synchronous movements. SOC. ANON. DES ATELIERS BRILLI• FR’RES, 28, Boulevard de Villiers, Levallois-Perret, Seine, France. March 20, 1931, No. 8635. Convention date, March 20, 1930. [Class 40 (iii).] Actuating means for a speedometer and odometer comprises a switch formed of conducting and non-conducting parts 2, 3 respectively and driven from the shaft 1, the speed of which is required, to supply through the brushes 4, 5, 6 polyphase current to the coils 7, 8, 9 of the polepieces 13, 14, 15 of a polyphase stator 10 of a synchronous motor, the rotor of which is formed by a cobalt steel ring 16 which becomes magnetized to produce a rotating magnetic field. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the rotor is a cvlindrical bar 36 with polepieces 37, 38 and having at one end a magnet 40. Fig. 5 shows a modification of the driving switch which allows a reversal of the direction of flow of the current in the coils of the stator. A modified construction is shown in Fig. 16 which is useful when a motor-vehicle battery is used as the source of current and it is desirable to cut off the supply when the vehicle is stationary. Current is supplied successively to the three conductors 54, 55, 56, Fig. 6, through the source of direct current connected to the vehicle-rotated shaft 52 having rigid with it a part 51 on which is pivoted a lever 49 having mounted on it a brush 48 which, when the shaft 52 is rotating, is moved centrifugally to wipe the conducting parts 45, 46, 47, but which, when the vehicle and thus the shaft 52 are stationary, is pulled by the spring 53, out of contact with the parts 45, 46, 47 to rest against the shaft 52 and thus break the supply of current to the conductors 54, 55, 56. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a modification, Figs. 4 (Cancelled) and 5 (Cancelled), in which the rotor 28 is U-shaped and states that the driving apparatus may be a commutator of any known type, with reversed current or not, or an alternator, or the synchronous motor may be of any known type, monophase or polyphase. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
