Abstract

374,969. Road-sweeping machines. PREMIER STEEL TUBE CO., Ltd. and HARVEY, T. H., 15, Kingsway, London. Feb. 23, 1931, No. 5659. [Class 107.] A sweeping machine comprises a rotary brush B<2> carried by a frame B<1> which is angularly adjustable with respect to the direction of travel of the machine so as to cause the sweepings to be diverted to one side of the machine, a non-rotary sweeping- device C located in front of the brush B<2> and along its entire length so as to prevent straw &c. from reaching the brush B<2>, and a member D<1>, D<2> adapted to project in front at each end of the non-rotary device C for preventing the sweepings from being deposited on the wrong side of the machine. Of the members D<1>, D2, only the one at the furthest forward end of the rotary brush B<2> is in action at one time, and both these members and the device C may comprise flat shaped brushes or squeegees. The brush B<2> is supported on a frame B<1> carried by an extensible spindle B having two universal joints B<7>, B<8>. The frame B<1> and brush B<2> may be raised by a hand-lever b and connections b2 at each side of the machine. Angular adjustment of the brush B<2> is effected by moving one end of the spindle B about the vertical axis B<10> of the universal joint B<8> by a handle E which is connected by a link E<1> to a slide E<2>, having guided rollers E<3> and a downwardly projecting part E<5> linked to the spindle B. The device C may be mounted in a bracket C<1> pivoted to the frame B at C<2>, C<3>, and the side members D<1>, D<2> are carried by arms D<4>, D<5> pivoted to the bracket C<1> so that either member D<1>, D2 may be swung rearwardly as shown in Fig. 1. The members C, D<1>, D<2> may be moved independently of the brush B<2> by a cord or chain C<9> connected to lugs C<8> on the bracket C<1> and passing over a pulley C<10> on a pivoted lever C" which is connected by a rod C<12> to a hand lever C<13>. The appropriate member D<1>, D2 may be moved into position by a hand-lever or automatically upon angular adjustment of the brush B<2>. The machine is carried on a chassis A supported on wheels A<2>, A<1>.
