[Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i).] Relates to floors, ceilings, or roof construction, in which preformed hollow blocks or tiles are employed and are spaced apart in rows so that supporting reinforced or other beams may be cast in situ in the space between them, the invention being concerned with the production of hollow blocks open at one face only, with a construction of floor made therefrom, and also with the production of a hollow block with triangular recesses having inclined partitions between. The hollow blocks open at one face only are shown in Fig. 3 applied to a floor, the blocks being arranged back to back with the open faces abutting. The back of each block is closed and is provided with short lugs L near the top thereof which abut and leave space between the blocks for threading reinforcing rods therethrough. Lips K are provided on the opposing backs b of the blocks and corresponding lips D on the two side faces E. The faces E are shaped as indicated to allow of a recess Q for the concrete which first decreases downwardly and then increases. Reinforcing rods H are placed in the recess and may be tightened by nut-and-screw or equivalent means. The reinforcements in the preferred form comprise small rods bent to form a lattice, the ends J of the rods passing over the lugs L and being cranked to interconnect as indicated at c. The rods preferably pass under the main reinforcement bars H. The blocks are formed with cavities B, C between which are inclined ribs F and this construction with the addition of the lips at the base is applicable to blocks in which the cavity passes right through. The open faces of the blocks are preferably provided with rebates M.
