374,444. Fireplaces combined with radiators. ANDERSON, R. W., 4A, Colquitt Street, Liverpool, and CALOR, Ltd., 33, Westbourne Terrace, London. March 9, 1931, No. 7257. [Class 126.] A combined radiator and fireplace comprises mantel 1 and jamb portions 2 surrounding a hearth opening 5 to receive an electric, gas or coal fire. Openings 6 .. 9 are provided for the circulation of air over relatively narrow hot water containers 10, Fig. 2, or pipes 16, Fig. 5, situated behind the casing 1. The pipes 16 may be arranged both horizontally and vertically to form a check pattern. In another modification, Fig. 7, the water container 27 is connected to a radiating pipe element 21 over which the circulating air passes. Baffles 22 and a hand-regulated grid 24 may be provided. In another modification, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), the pipes 21 may be arranged horizontally and be provided with radiating fins, and a thermostat exposed to the room temperature may control the supply of hot water. In another modification, Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), the heater behind the casing 1 may be electric and may be enclosed in a container filled with a suitable liquid or solid through which the heat is conducted. The circulating air may be received from outside the building, and a circulating fan may be employed. The container 27 and pipes 21 may alternatively be supplied with a cooling medium.
