Abstract

374,128. Cutting and slicing vegetables. FORD, F., 14, Weymouth Street, Halifax. March 5, 1931, Nos. 6834 and 16545. [Class 5 (i).] In an appliance for cutting potatoes or the like into slices or chips of the kind wherein a grid-like plunger K movable on vertical pillars D secured to a base or bed A, is caused to descend by means of a bell crank operating lever L upon a potato positioned on a grid-like cutter B adapted to allow said slices or chips to pass through corresponding interstices therein into a receptacle beneath, the operating lever L being returned to its initial position by a spring V or weight I, the said operating lever L is provided with a straight slot M in close proximity to the elbow thereof and pivots on a pin G carried by brackets or arms F on a cross-head E supported by the vertical pillars D. The spring V is mounted on a pin or the like T supported in curved slots S in the bifurcated lower end R of the lever L. A pin N on the plunger head J, surrounded by a loose sleeve P, coacts with the slot M in the lever L. Stops Y and resilient washers Z are provided on the pillars D which may also have spiral lubricating grooves. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the weight I is adjustable on the lever L.
