PIE-CUTTING nnvrcn Application filed November 14, 1921. Serial No, 515,005.: i
To all whom it. may concern Be it known that I, Josnrrr J. SLOVACK,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunderland, in the county of Franklin and v State of Massachusetts, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Pie-Cutting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pie cutting device, andthe object is to-provide,1n,connec tion with a supporting and guiding element,
av reciprocable member mountinga plurality.
of radial cutting blades. v
A further object is to provlde, in a devlce of the character indicated, a reciprocable,
resiliently-mounted member, guid ng means 7 therefor, and a cutting element including a plurality of radial blades carried by the reciprocable member, and a radially slotted plate member, the angle between the'slots of this element corresponding with the angle between the blades forming the cutter.
With the foregoing and other objects in views, the invention consists. in the novel con- 2 struction and arrangement of elements described and claimed, it: being understood that modificationsmay be made within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, 1 I t In the-drawings, Figure 1 is a'view of the device in side elevation; Figure 2 is a view in vertical section; Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3-of Figure 1, the lower part of the device being in top plan; Fi ure 4 is a de- 5 tail .view, in vertical section, through th lower part of the verticallymovable element.
The mainsupporting and guiding member is designated 10, and is provided at its upper end with a threaded portion 11 engaged by a cap 12. having a. central aperture through which the rec-ipr'ocable element 13 passes. p Formed with element 1001' connected with 4 the lower portion thereof is a longitudinally slotted member 15, the slots being designated 16 and providing for the operation of the radial blades of thecutting device. The member 13 is, encircled by a coil spring 17, acting to return the butter to norma-l position after operation, by pressure on the elements18.
Ahead 19 is carriedby the element 13, and
connected therewith are the radial blades 20 corresponding in. number with the slots 16', it
beingobvious that the device may be made for'cutting any suitable number of pieces, as for instance five or six.
A plate 22 is mounted as shown, and is also provided; withslots corresponding in number with the number of blades, the'slots beingdesignated23. i i A device 24 acts as a gage, andenables. the operator to mounted on the element 10 determine the center. It should be added that the plate- -22 isaboutthe diameter" of the pie to be out, and prevents the breaking 7 3 of the edges of the crust.
The device isplac'ed on the pie to be the handle 24 isg'rasped'inone hand andthe wardly.-- Pin 28 will enter the pie, to an extent determined by the thickness of the pie,-'. v
and theplate 22 willthen rest on the upper wooded plate or a cutting board,'the pin will I Y portion or crust. If the pie isplac'edon a enter "the wood'to a very slight extentfland" will steady the device As pies vary in siz the diameterof the plates22and thepie may;

l Whatlclaim'fisznv 1. A device ofthe class describedicom- 'for acting as a gage in; determining the prising a supporting element,la reciprocable: V element carried thereby,'said element being movable manually with reference to the sup- I porting member, asprlng forreturning the reciprocable element to normal position after the manual operation. radialbladesjcarrie'd' ber provided with radial slots,the angle between the slots corresponding with the angle between the blades, and means carried 'by'the supporting memberfor guiding the.
by the reciprocable element,- a plate me'm-iblades a pin mounted for vertical movement downwardly. [2. A device spring encircling said rod and acting tov return it tonormal positlon after manual reciprocation, a head carried by said rod,
spindle or element 13 is pressed downblades mounted on the head and radiating therefrom, a slotted element carried by the supporting member, the slots extending 10ngitudinally thereof "and permitting of the movement bf the blades when "the rod 'is reeiproeated, a plate having radial slots through which the blades pass when the rod is reciprocated, and a gage element carried by the supporting member and permitting the latter to be placed in the center of an 10 article to be cut.
