Abstract

373,281. Cash registers. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO., Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Shipley, B. M.; 2021, Catalpa Drive, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Jan. 21, 1931, No. 11063/32. Convention date, Jan. 24, 1930. Divided on 371,435, [Group XIX]. [Class 100 (iv).] Hammer-impression mechanism.-The printing-hammer for the voucher strip of a key set and operated cash register comprises platens 291, 298, Figs. 6 and 9, adjustably mounted on arms 289 rockable about studs 318, 330. The studs 318, 330 project from a frame 282 that may, upon the release of a latch, be rotated about pintles 285 to give access to the inkribbon mechanism &c. The hammer is operated from the key-coupler 55, Fig. 9, through a link 308, lever 309, byepass pawl 310 and floating- Jever 313. The floating-lever 313 is pin-andslot connected to one arm of the hammer and is held by a spring 320 with the lower end of a slot 317 in contact with the stud 318 and with a face 321 in contact with a stop 322. A similar floating-lever 323, Fig. 6, is provided at the opposite side of the hammer, and is held by a spring 332 with the lower end of a slot 324 in contact with stud 330 and with a face 333 in contact with a stop 335. The printing- hammer for the total printer comprises platens 510, 511, 513, Fig. 13, mounted on arms 493 rockable about pintles 494. The hammer is normally held in a position just above the typewheels against the action of a spring 495, by the abutment of a shoulder 497 on the hammer with a stop 498 on a slide 499. The hammer is accessible through a door in the casing and is operated by being thrust, manually against the type-wheels. In order to obtain access to the ink ribbon &c., the stop 498 is withdrawn by means of a latch lever 505 and the hammer is rotated to the position shown in broken lines, in which position it is. maintained by the engagement of the stop 498 within a recess 522. in the hammer. Ink ribbon mechanism.-The ink-ribbon 336, Fig. 15, is carried by two spools each provided with a feeding ratchet 337, 338. The ratchets' are driven by pawls 358, 359, one only of which is operative at a time. The pawls are carried by a member 360 held in one of two positions longitudinally of a slide 346 by a detent 363 pivoted to the member and provided with two recesses for alternative engagement with a stud 365 on the slide. The slide is given one to-and-fro movement at each operation of the machine, being connected for this purpose through a pin 344 and cam-slot 341 to a pitman 343 operatively connected to the shaft 240. The operative pawl 358 or 359 continues to drive its associated, ratchet until the opposite spool is empty, when the tension of the ribbon forces the member 360 into its alternative position relative to the slide and the other pawl becomes operative.
