262,617. Marshall, H. P. Jan. 18, 1926. Tickets, issuing; registering number and value of; printing arrangements.-A ticket printing device for omnibus &c. fare systems wherein a single standard ticket is used comprises a sighting and type drum settable by external means through a clutch, a totalizing-counter actuated thereby, and manually operable means for impressing the amount on the ticket, the operating means serving to actuate a number counter, to de-clutch the setting means after the printing operation, and to release the drum retaining means. As shown in Fig. 2, the drum, which comprises two sections 7, 8 with cutting type numerals 9 and indicating numerals 10 respectively, is mounted on a shaft 11 and is connected to a setting knob 12 through a clutch device 40, 41, the drum being held in set position by the engagement of a pawl 16 with a ratchet wheel 15 secured to the drum. The spindle 11 is coupled, through a ratchet drive 14, to a fare totalizing counter 13. The casing 1 has an aperture 2 for indicating the drum setting and is provided with a slot 3 for the insertion of a ticket; when a ticket has been inserted a trigger finger 6 or the end of an operating rod 17 is depressed against the action of a spring 21 whereupon a cam face 25 on the rod rocks a cam member 26 so as to raise the impression hammer 28 and force the ticket against the cutting type 9 presented to it. At the same time a bell hammer 30 is released to strike a bell 31. On the release of the rod 17 a cam 47 on the impression hammer 28 rocks a forked lever 38 so as to disengage the clutch member 40 and a pawl 22, Fig. 5, actuates the driving ratchet 23 of a ticket number counter 24. During this return movement a recess 49 in the rod 17 co-operates with the pawl 16 to disengage the ratchet wheel 15 whereupon the drum returns to its initial position by spring means. In order to prevent the drum being carried past the zero or highest numeral a pin 19 on the shaft 11 co-operates with a pivoted stop 18, Fig. 4, movable between fixed stops 20. In a modified form, as shown in Fig. 6, the clutch 40 is adapted to be disengaged by a lever 38 connected by a link 36 to a lever 35 having a projection 34 in the path of a one-way pawl 32 pivoted on the rod 17. A second projection 44 on the lever 35 is provided to release the pawl 16 to permit of the restoring of the drum. The rod 17 may be locked against movement by a latch adapted to be released when a ticket is inserted.
