Abstract
372,654. Thermostats. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Finch, J. L. ; Rocky Point, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 1, 1931, No. 24576. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1930. [Class 64 (ii).] An electron discharge device, particularly one of the type known under the registered Trade Name " Thyratron," is arranged to control temperature, or the flow of liquids. As shown in the Figure, so long as the contact 20 is open, the voltages from the A.C. source 4 are applied in phase to the anode 26 and through a resistance 22 to the grid 30, and rectified current flows through a heating element 24. As the surrounding temperature increases the contact 20 closes by thermostatic action, the applied grid voltage is reversed so that it is out of phase with the anode voltage, and the anode current is cut off. Several Thyratrons may be used in parallel to increase the output ; or two may be connected in series across the input transformer.
