[Class 79 (iii).] To prevent theft of the radiator cap on a motor car, the shank of a mascot or thermal indicator passing through the cap is provided with a swivel member anchored to the interior of the radiator. The swivel member may comprise a plate 18, Fig. 3, a collar 22, Fig. 4, or a cup-shaped combination of the two as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The plate 18 is m unted between a flange 16 and washer 17 on an externally-threaded sleeve 15 secured on the threaded shank 3 of a mascot &c. 14 by a nut 6, removal of which is prevented by burring the end of the shank. The collar 22 is mounted on a plain spacing sleeve 20 secured on the shank 3 by a nut 6 with washer 21. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the swivel member 7 is secured on the shank by a flanged sleeve 5 secured by a nut 6 with or without an interposed spring or other washer ; the nut 6 being surrounded by the member 7, a special spanner is necessary for removal thereof. The anchoring means comprises a chain 10 secured to the looped and riveted end of a metal strip 11 the other end of which is preferably secured by being bent over the end of the radiator intake pipe 12 before attachment of the rubber jointing tube 13. The chain 10 may be attached to a dependent arm on the swivel member in the forms shown in Figs. 3 and 4 or to a stirrup extension 9 of the cup-shaped member 7 in Figs. 1 and 2. In a further modification, an eye is provided on the side of the member 7 instead of the stirrup 9 and in this form the flanged sleeve 5 is threaded on to the shank 3.
