Abstract

371,963. Windscreen wipers: squeegees. WILLIS, H., 74, Dufferin Avenue, Bangor, Co. Down, and WILLIS WIPER CO., Ltd., 142, Royal Avenue, Belfast, both in Northern Ireland. Feb. 5, 1931, Nos. 3624 and 29703. [Classes 19 and 138 (i).] Windscreen wipers are provided with a bulbous resilient wiping edge combined in a holder which has a certain amount of play, so that it can roll from side to side in operation. The blade 1 carrying a strip 2 of chamois leather over rubber tubing 3 is mounted in a forked member 5 with tapering ends 5a, 5b to allow play. A connecting pin 6 also allows movement of the blade in the plane of its axis. In a modification, the wiper edge, Fig. 4, consists of a rubber strip 8 bent double and gripped in the blade 1. In another example, the edge 11a, Fig. 5, consists of a rubber tube formed on a flat strip 11 or solutioned thereto. In another example, Fig. 7, the edge consists of a solid beaded edge 10a of rubber or sponge rubber formed on a flat strip of rubber 10.
