Abstract

To prevent accidental poisoning, articles of common use containing poisonous constituents such as metaldehyde (for fuel) and indelible pencils are admixed, smeared, or impregnated with substances of the capsaicin group such as capsicum or the oxybenzylamides of fatty acids, for instance the vanillylamides of the nonylene-, nonyl-, decylene-, decyl-, undecylene-, and undecyl-acids. Adhesive materials such as nitrocellulose, collodion, or paraffin may be used with the capsaicin substance. Bitter substances partly soluble in water and alcohol may also be added, such as bile or its bitter components.
