Abstract

371,077. Photographic and kinematographic pictures ; colour photography. KODAK, Ltd., Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Capstaff, J. G. ; Kodak Park, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 9, 1931, No. 4042. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1930. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (ii).] Photographic or kinematograph pictures are produced by forming a silver image in an insoluble colloid layer interposed between and adherent to a support and a soluble gelatin layer (which is preferably permanently coloured) treating the silver image in a bath, such as the ozobrome bath, which will react with the silver to harden differentially the portions of the adherent gelatin layer adjacent to the image, and dissolving away the unhardened parts of the adherent gelatin layer as with warm water. The support may be of cellulose acetate or other cellulose derivative, and the adherent gelatin layer may be ready-coloured with a permanent dye or pigment, or contain colourless leuco compounds which may be converted into coloured compounds by subsequent treatment ; or it may be treated with colour after the relief image has been formed in it. After treatment with the ozobrome or like bath, the layers may be cleared with a bath of sodium or potassium sulphite. The silver image may remain with the gelatin relief image, or it may be removed by means of a bath of sodium thiosulphate. For two-colour pictures, the two colour components may be produced by the above-described process in layers coated on opposite sides of a transparent support. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that a single layer containing the soluble gelatin, and the silver halide emulsion prepared with insoluble gelatin as vehicle, may be coated on the support instead of the two superimposed layers and may include permanent dyes, pigments or coloured particles ; that the soluble gelatin layer may be coated on the support underneath the silver halide emulsion layer, in which case the image layers may be stripped from the support on treatment with warm water to develop the relief image ; that more than one image may be formed in the silver halide emulsion layer ; and that the process may be used for making anaglyphs. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
