Abstract

370,612. Laminated springs. TALBOT, F. J., Globe Steel Works, Sheffield. March 14, 1931, No. 7920. [Class 108 (iii).] In a laminated spring in which each spring plate has a central rib 2 and a corresponding depression and in which a packing plate 13 is driven between one end of a hoop 3, which connects the spring plates together, and the nearest spring plate, a hollowended grub-screw 4 is screwed into the hoop 3 and passes through an aperture in the packing plate to engage the nib on the lowest spring plate. In one form, an upper packing- plate 5 is also provided and axles 7 journalled therein form pivots for divided links 8, 9 which are adjustably connected by a screwed sleeve 11 held against rotation by a split pin 12. The lower packing plate 13 is formed in such a manner that it can be driven into position without damaging the nib on the lower spring plate and for this purpose, the central aperture may be connected to the end of the plate 'by a slot. Alternatively the packing plate may be formed in two parts 18, Fig. 6, having flanges 18a to facilitate withdrawal and in a further modification, the packing plate is provided with a groove in its upper surface which extends from the aperture to one end of the plate. The plate 13 is provided with a longitudinal ridge 17 engaging a corresponding groove in'the hoop. One of the links 9, 8 may be hollow and threaded internally to receive the end of the other link and two ribs and two grub-screws, one on either side of the central axis of the spring, may be provided.
