Abstract
370,112. Photo graphic printing apparatus. DEBRIE, A. L. V. C., 111, Rue St. Maur, Paris. Feb. 14, 1931, No. 4733. Convention date, April 5, 1930. [Class 98 (ii).] Relates to apparatus for photographically printing a sound-record on a combined sound and picture film. According to the invention, in order to prevent relative slipping of the films during the printing of the sound record, this printing is effected by passing the negative film and the positive print film together, with uniform movement, over a guiding channel curved to an arc of small radius, in which channel the soundrecord printing aperture is provided ; the films are in contact with the curved channel over a substantial arc, and the driving device, which preferably engages the films at one edge only, is arranged beyond the guiding channel. In the apparatus shown, the said channel is formed by providing a fixed rib 6<1> and a movable rib 6<11> on a plate 6 which partially surrounds a cylinder 3. A lamp 4 is contained in the cylinder, and a printing aperture 5 is formed as shown. The negative film 8 and the positive film 7 are drawn together through the channel by a driving drum 11, having a single row of teeth engaging the perforations along one edge of the films, the films being pressed down over the printing aperture by a pivoted shutter 9, and held down against the driving drum by a pivoted shoe 13 and a roller 17, mounted on a lever which is pivoted at 16. The motion of the drum 11 is controlled by a spring-pressed flywheel 22 mounted on the shaft 10 carrying the drum. The sound-record printing apparatus shown is mounted beneath the usual pictureprinting apparatus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes an arrangement for using separate synchronous motors for driving the films past the picture and soundrecord printing devices respectively. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted, but forms the subject-matter of Specification 370,354.
